Next up on my list of Bloggers and Creators to keep en eye out for in 2019 is the wonderfully talented, physician, fashion blogger, menswear enthusiast and general nice guy, Mr Janish Kothari.

Who is Janish Kothari?

Hmm…so where to begin, I guess that’s sort of a tough question to answer. I think the best way for me to answer would be to say that I’m someone who is constantly evolving in an attempt to find the best version of himself. Since my family came to this country 29 years ago, its sort of always been driven in me that mediocrity isn’t what I should be striving for and my dreams should always be well beyond my reach to consistently keep motivating me to worker harder in order to achieve them.

With this mindset I’ve been able to accomplish a handful of things that I’m very proud of. Being a first generation immigrant, attending college and ultimately establishing myself in a respectable career were two things I strived for.

I’ve been able to become a physician and currently my eyes are looking ahead as I aspire to become a Cardiologist after my current training comes to an end.

How did you start on your creative journey?

I don’t think there is a simple answer to this question. I’d have to say that I think I’ve always been a creative person. I’m left handed, I’m unconventional, I’m unorthodox…quite simply I think I just approach life with different optics then most. Art was always something that appealed to me, I was never talented in the conventional sense; I can’t draw, paint or hand craft anything…but I’ve always had the ideas on how to get these things done.

As I got older I came to the realization that if I wanted to express this side of myself I’d have to find a medium to do so. I have always been in to fashion while growing up, Instagram was a platform that gave me the ability to reach hundreds of millions of people, and as a result I began to shoot on my own and one thing lead to another.

I found my following growing and this motivated me more to create better and better content. Eventually brands wanted to work with me because they enjoyed what I was creating. I began to take things more seriously and I saw my potential growing right before my eyes, I began to work with talented photographers such as Marcus (@marcusvrichardson) and Saunak (@saunakspace) and I shared with them the vision I had but couldn’t capture quite the right way on my own. Working with them I was able to produce my vision in its entirety, exactly the way I saw it in my head.

I wanted to create something that was synonymous with me. Now when people come to my page and they see “my look” they automatically make the connection and say “oh that’s Janish’s look.”

What makes you want to get up on a morning?

Well that’s easy, I have a very demanding day job being a physician by trade. Things are pretty structured from a day to day perspective.

From a motivational standpoint I suppose you could say that being a physician was one of the early dreams I have had and I’m a firm believer that just because you accomplish a dream doesn’t mean you stop working for it.

I love my job and its something that I’ve always wanted and worked extremely hard to achieve so I wake up every morning on schedule to go do something I love…can’t think of anything more motivating then that.

Ideal brand to work with down the line?

Ahh…this is too hard to answer. I have such eclectic taste in the fashion industry in particular that narrowing down to just one is tough. But if I had to pick, considering my interests range from classic designers such as Ralph Lauren for clothing and Cole Haan for shoes…working with any of them would be a tremendous honor.

Where will we see you in 5 years?

In 5 years, I hope to see myself as a practicing cardiologist. I hope to have taken my social media platform to greater heights and along the way I hope to have established myself in the little medical fashion niche that I have created for myself.

I’d like to use my reach to disperse valuable medical information to the masses, perhaps speak about pertinent topics on media outlets such as CNN and ABC News.

In terms of fashion, it would be a tremendous goal to work with big time designers in Fashion Week, perhaps in Paris

Favorite images taken of you and favorite brand you’ve worked with?

My favorite brand so far has certainly been John Henric. It was one of the first brands I saw when I started blogging and said to myself how cool would it be to work with them.

I’ve been so fortunate to have finally achieved that because they are pretty exclusive in their collaborations. It was a tremendous honor and privilege for me to be considered as a quality candidate.

Any pet peeves?

I don’t have too many pet peeves, but the one thing that comes to mind is lack of punctuality.

I’ve always been known to be the kind of person that arrives before I’m required to, I don’t like to make people wait because I don’t want them to do it to me.

I’m a firm believer that if you arrive early, then you are on time, if you arrive on time, then you are already late and if you are late, don’t bother showing up. Haha.

Advice to aspiring bloggers and creators out there?

Its cliché, but it works. Do what you love and create it in a way that means something to you.

People always ask me isn’t it so much work to do what I do on my free time. And I tell them, quite frankly, no.

Blogging to me is an instant escape from my daily hectic life. In particular, the kind of blogging that I do, I get to put on an ensemble and pretend to be anyone I want in front of the camera. It allows me a medium to capture moments in my life that are organic and others that I have curated to my liking to tell a story…my story.

So my advice is to do what you love and have fun doing it. Hobby’s shouldn’t feel like work; they should bring you joy because the best creativity comes when your enjoying the creative process…that’s my favorite part about all of this…the process.
